Review by Matthew C.
2010.07.22

(This review refers to the DVD version/release.)

It's easy to focus on Michael Sheen, he's memorizing as Brian Clough, but The Damned United is actually full of fantastic performances.

I personally have no experience with soccer and growing up where I did, when I did, had a profound effect. Soccer was always a minor ACTIVITY, not the full fledged SPORT the rest of the world knows. Growing up in the "city of champions" didn't leave much room for soccer.

I'd still rather watch a hockey or (an American) football game, but The Damned United made for a very interesting tale. (And this is a Penguins and Steelers fan talking.)

Final Thought:

  Fantastic performances

From The Packaging / Advertising:

Previously successful manager Brian Clough takes over England's top football club Leeds United. His abrasive approach and his clear dislike of the players' dirty style of play make it certain there is going to be friction. Glimpses of his earlier career help explain both his hostility to previous manager Don Revie and how much he is missing his usual right-hand man, Peter Taylor, who decided to loyally stay with Brighton & Hove Albion.
