(This review refers to the GC version/release.)

This game looks AWESOME. It sounds great. And the gameplay is really fun.

While it isn't the most difficult game in the world, I PREFER it this way. Ocarina of Time was a bit hard and at times infuriated me. The Wind Waker is surprisingly easier, but just as much fun. (Maybe more...)

GameSpot.com describes this as a "must own" GameCube game.

The Ocarina of Time was really fun, but was a bit too hard at times. The Wind Waker is really fun, but driving around in your boat for long periods of time gets boring at times.

(...by the way, the music in this game is AWESOME...I got the soundtrack for it and I can't stop listening to it...well, I could, but I'm not...)

The interpretation of previous Zelda music is great and the new stuff is incredible. Yes, some tracks do have sort-of a "Celtic trad" sound, but I think that's mainly because of the instruments used as opposed to a deliberate musical direction.

On a bad day, I would say this game is great. On a good day, I would say this game is "a FFFFFFF masterpiece"

I don't have time for much right now (my life is too busy), but I'll make time for "The Wind Waker".

It's the little things.

Visually, the game is really something... something great.

Even the way you kill enemies. Instead of just disappearing, Enemies burst into a cloud of purple smoke that gradually dissipates.

At first, that was annoying. I wasn't expecting it. BUT, then I thought that it's more "realistic". I mean, I don't kill goblin or hog creatures every day, but when explosions happen "in the real world", there is normally some sort of debris that hangs in the air for a little while.

In the game this wasn't welcome at first, but soon I came to appreciate it. Yes, it does obscure any "goodies" that the enemies might drop for the first few seconds, but this is definitely Nintendo's way of trying to make things more "real" while still staying in the "Zelda" universe.

(...It would be more realistic if the bodies didn't dissappear and you had to search the dead bodies to find treasures, but this is Nintendo after all...)

Speaking of "making things real"... Don't think that Nintendo is making the "Legend of Zelda" series TOO realistic. The Wind Waker features a SAILBOAT that JUMPS.

What? Why?

(...well, this is the series that gave us a SWORD that could SHOOT enemies from a distance...)

2005.08.31

I just saw an episode of "Filter" on G4/TechTV last night and they counted down the "top ten video games you never finished". I was surprised to see Wind Waker among them. It was actually listed as number 4!

The thing that confuses me is this: THIS IS THE ONLY ZELDA GAME I EVER BEAT.

So it's not that Wind Waker is hard, it just takes a while to drive everywhere in your boat. I guess most people gave up playing after a while. The "secret" is (if you can call it that), is to use the various songs in the game to "warp" around.

...

Now... "Ocarina of Time", THAT was a game I never finished. It's great, but I never finished it. (stupid water temple)

Just more evidence that Nintendo stresses QUALITY over QUANTITY.

2007.02.26

This is one of the greatest games in this incredible series. This is a MUST OWN GameCube game.

Final Thought:

  Excellent!
