"Deadpool #900 is dumb."

Ready for some blasphemy?

Deadpool #900 is the worst DP book I've read in ages. It's messy, thrown together, irrelevant, and more evidence that Marvel's understanding of the character must have left with Gail Simone.

Deadpool #900 is the winner of the coveted "series low point". I mean, it's the worst DP stuff since Agent X #10, #11, and #12 (which you can argue isn't even DP). So...I guess I'd go with the "Deadpool in space" stuff from 2001. (I think it was 2001. It was around Deadpool #40.) DP #40 had an excellent cover, but the story inside was bad.

But back to Deadpool #900:
  • Irrelevant issue number? Good.
  • Thick DP story collection? Good.
  • Various art styles to appeal to a wider audience? Business is business.
However, the DP stories themselves are just dumb. The best part of Deadpool #900 is the reprint of DP's team up with Widdle Wade. Yes, I said it, "the best part of the NEW DP book is the re-print of an OLD DP book". I loved seeing the Japanese flashback again. Widdle Wade, Daruma, Sazae. Which brings me to why they picked this book in particular to re-print now.

I believe it all has to do with the upcoming Deadpool movie. Ryan Reynolds is a self-proclaimed Deadpool fan. I bet he's trying to get some "chiyonosake" or "chiyo" reference in the script to appeal to the "hardcore" Deadpool fans. This I guess makes Marvel nervous that no one will know the reference so they reprint the only book that mentions it. That way, when the movie comes out, people will think it's a "current reference" and run to the "interwebs" to shout how authentic the new movie is.

One of the best things about Deadpool #900 is that every series has a low point and I'm glad we've gotten this one out of the way. Now Marvel has to kill the series (yet again) and re-start it (yet again) to be able to give us a new low point.

Again, the best part of the new Deadpool book is the inclusion of an old Deadpool book.
  • The writing in parts of Deadpool #900 is good.
  • The imitation "Ed McGuinness" artwork in parts of Deadpool #900 is good.
  • The humor in parts of Deadpool #900 is good.
  • however overall Deadpool #900 is dumb.
