"To Hell With The Conspiracies..."

This article is a direct response to Ted S.'s comments on the
Truman Show.
First
of all, I liked
Killer Klowns from Outer Space.
I understand having an opinion about a film before seeing it, but arguing against the film
before seeing it? I saw
The Truman Show and I liked it. I thought Jim Carrey was
very good in it. I must admit that Ted had a point when he mentioned that
Truman's
plot and basic premise were unlike anything in the theaters at the time.
Truman was
different. And that's why I went to see it.
I like originality in film.
Too many times
have I seen the same movie remade over and over with slightly different plot twists.
Four
films which exemplify this are
Indecent Proposal or
Honeymoon In Vegas and
Deep
Impact or
Armageddon.
Ted mentioned a "recipe" for hit movies, "really shock an audience by
putting a comedian in a serious role and hype it up to be a really great movie."
Rent
Philadelphia. Up to the point Tom Hanks made
Philadelphia, he had worked
mainly as an up-and-coming comedic actor.
Philadelphia cemented his place in
dramatic film. The "recipe" you mentioned can work and has worked very well in
the past.
Rent
The Truman Show, I think you'll like it.
